About

MEet THe band

Zoom calls and board meetings may be the daytime routine, but this group of industry leaders come to shed the suit and start rockin'. Five guys across three generations came together to trade the briefcase for the guitar case, and thus, ROGER THAT! was born.

MATT EDLEN

LEAD VOCALS

Born and bred Portland native (though his Red Sox hat might not make that abundantly clear), Edlen brings his high-flying tenor, wild energy, and supreme lack of inhibitions to head up vocals for Roger That!

A long-time musician, Edlen spent much of his teens/20s singing -  from high school choir to professionally in Chicago, he has sung everything from musical theater to rock to opera. After a hiatus playing grown-up, raising a family, etc., he's back at it with some of the world's greatest guys. When he's not playing with the band, Edlen is one of the co-founding partners of Edlen & Co, a Portland-based Real Estate development firm focused on environmental and social sustainability.  Shout out to his wife, Jessica, and two sons, Jack and William, for putting up with the noise!

Roger Mills

GUITAR

Hailing from the music mecca of Lake Oswego, my musical career peaked in 7th grade as the 4th chair clarinet in the Waluga JHS band. Go, Warriors! Fast forward 35 years, three kids out of the house, and my supportive spouse Amy giving me a nudge to pick up the guitar just seemed right. The best breakthroughs in life come when you push yourself out of your comfort zone.  Not sure where this step ends, but I love these guys, and it sure has been fun.

Bart "Bartman" Ricketts

KEYBOARD + BACKING VOCALS

Hailing from Bend, Oregon, Ricketts has been playing keyboards since the age of 10 but found his love for the instrument when he figured out he could play by ear and progressed to playing with jazz charts. The love for live performances started with singing and playing keyboards for the Show Choir in High School. It continued in college at Santa Clara University -- playing for a cover band called "Catfish" and then with the electric version of "The Strangers" in the late 80s and early 90s. When he's not playing with the band, Ricketts is the CEO of Lease Crutcher Lewis -- a PNW-based Commercial General Contractor with offices in Portland, Seattle, and Eugene. Ricketts' musical pursuits get lots of support from wife Wendy, his live music exploration partner for 26+ years, and adult kids Olivia (BFA in musical theater, living in NYC) and George (heavy metal drummer at Pacific University).

STEVE BARRAGAR

GUITAR

Born and raised in Portland, OR, I picked up the guitar at 16. I bought a Les Paul copy for $85.00. It would be a while before I could afford an amplifier, but I figured out how to wire it and play through an empty frequency at the end of the FM dial on an old radio for the first six months or so. Regardless, I was hooked. I played in a couple of original rock and roll bands in the 90’s (PAL, Furious George) that were met with modest local success. Marriage and parenting would put the guitar on a cool back burner for a long time. Finding a group of like-minded musicians to play with later in life is difficult. I thought that would be deep in the rearview mirror for the rest of my days. Fast forward to 2022, sitting in a meeting with Roger and Bart, I overheard them talking about playing music at this guy Ian’s house. I shamelessly attempted to invite myself to a jam session. I later apologized for coming on harder than a drunk guy at a singles bar at closing time, but, to my delight, Roger called me a few weeks later, asking me to jam! I am thrilled to have music back in my life, and the fact that I get to do it with such an outstanding group of guys makes it much more special. I’m in commercial real estate by day. In my spare time, when not jamming at Ian’s house, I can be found skiing, lifting weights, and training in martial arts.
